April 25 – May 4: Heidelberger Stückemarkt
The Festival has developed into one of the most important German-speaking theatrical festivals. For around a week, up-and-coming German and European authors present contemporary drama and unusual subjects.

May 21 – 25: Heidelberger Literature Days
The annual Literature Festival has been one of the highpoints of the cultural life of Heidelberg since 1994. The program of readings by international authors, interviews with authors and music has for many years attracted attention from far beyond the region.

June 7, July 12 and September 6: Heidelberg Castle Illuminations
Today’s spectacular castle illuminations recall the destruction of Heidelberg Castle by the French General Mélac in the year 1689, and during the War of the Palatine Succession in 1693. The fireworks following the illuminations echo the historical fireworks staged for the wedding festivities of elector Friedrich V and Elisabeth Stuart in 1613.

June 15 – August 2: Heidelberg Castle Festival Plays
For around six weeks, the Heidelberg Castle Festival Plays transform the Castle into a showplace of tense intrigues, love stories and duels. Visitors can look forward to the new production of the “Student Prince”. For the younger public, “Robin Hood” is also on the program.

July 3 – 6: “Leinen Los!” (“Cast off”) Youth Theatre in the Delta
The Festival combines the many educational theatre facilities for children and young people in the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region. A cooperation of the “Nationaltheater Mannheim”, the “Theater im Pfalzbau Ludwigshafen”, the Heidelberg Theatre and Orchestra, the “Nibelungenhorde e.V. Worms” and the “Kinder- und Jugendtheater Speyer”.

July 20 – 25: 29th Heidelberg Schülertheatertage
During the “Heidelberg Schülertheatertage” (“Heidelberg Schools Theatre Days”), the Zwinger³ once again belongs to the pupils! The Festival offers performances, workshops and the exchange between the participants. Theatre groups and societies of all school types are welcome this week to present their own productions. End of July: Heidelberg Bach Week
For 27 years, the “Heidelberg Bach Week”, which is celebrated every year during the days preceding the anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s death on July 28, has devoted itself to a subject which sets the works of Bach in relation to other areas of music, art or religion.

September – October 2014: “Denke.schön” – the Autumn Cabaret
Profundity, political satire and black humor. This is pure cabaret!

September 27: 45th Heidelberg Autumn
Heidelberg’s greatest and most popular city festival is always held on the last weekend in September.

October 2 – approx. November 9: Enjoy Jazz – 16th International Festival for Jazz and More
The greatest Jazz Festival in Germany. Around 70 concerts, matinees and master classes in the cities of Heidelberg, Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region offer an outstanding program during the six weeks of the Festival.

Mid-November – approx. 10 days: Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival
Founded in 1952, the Film Festival is enjoyed by over 60,000 visitors, and is one of the few film festivals enthusiastically attended by both specialist visitors and cinema-goers.

November 24* – December 22: Heidelberg Christmas Market
The Heidelberg Christmas Market has been an essential feature of Christmas in Heidelberg for over 30 years, and with its 140 stalls in five squares in the Heidelberg old town is a fixed attraction of the city. The ice rink on the Karlsplatz – Christmas on Ice – is open daily until January 6, 2015**.

December 5 – 17: Heidelberg Castle Christmas
The Heidelberg Castle Christmas is open from 5th – 17th December 2013 in the Castle Garden. Brightly lit pagoda tents, the seductive aroma of gingerbread and the festively illuminated Electoral Residence ring in the “Heidelberg Castle Christmas” from the beginning of December”.
